Long Cove Club is easily the highest rated
private course in the area (14th by Golfweek, 66th by Golf
Magazine), this layout is nearly as tough as that at Haig Point
Club. Eleven of the holes bring some sort of water or wetlands
into play, and those that don't offer some other difficult
challenge. It is the original of the four premier golf
communities, and thus is the model by which others are measured.
The course underwent extensive renovations in the summer of 2001
and, if possible, has been made even better. The ocean is a
5-minute drive away, with tennis, swimming, and a private marina
also available. Course Designer(s) - Pete Dye (18)

Wexford Plantation is often recognized for
its' emphasis on yachting and posh homes, this course is a
seldom-recognized diamond. Completely renovated in 1999 by former
U.S. Open champion and CBS golf analyst Ken Venturi, the course
hosts the annul qualifying event for the Heritage of Golf Classic
at Harbourtown. With the ocean a 5-minute drive away, private
dockage, tennis, swimming, and a newly refurbished clubhouse,
Wexford is a premier location for primary and second homes. Course

Berkeley Hall is a brand new development and
the first home sites were reserved on October 20, 2000. The
practice facility might very well be the finest in the country. It
is the work of the same developer who delivered Colleton River and
Belfair to the area. There will be no lots on the interior of the
golf courses - just on the periphery…a concept that the
developer has coined "core golf." With that in mind,
housing density has been diminished (just 400 home-sites) in an
effort to conserve the integrity of the golf courses. The first
course opened in April, 2000. Berkeley Hall is a 10-minute drive
from the bridge to Hilton Head Island. Course Designer(s) - Tom
Fazio, first and second courses. |
